New Projects Ignited a Wave of Innovation
The Aptos ecosystem experienced remarkable growth in 2024, expanding from 250 projects at the beginning of the year to over 330 initiatives spanning DeFi, gaming, consumer applications, and more. These projects embody some of the most innovative ideas in Web3, driven by builders determined to push the boundaries of what’s possible. The Aptos Collective also welcomed 60+ ambassadors this year.
The World Experienced Aptos
The Aptos world tour kicked off in Palo Alto with the Ecosystem Summit, where the best and brightest came together to chart a vision for the year ahead. From there, the community crossed the Pacific to Hong Kong for the DeFi Summit, a gathering dedicated to exploring blockchain’s most impactful use case: decentralized finance.
It all culminated in September with The Aptos Experience, a landmark event celebrating innovation and co-creation. This wasn’t just a showcase of Web3 trends and products—it was a collaborative space where visionaries came together to shape the future of decentralization. Featuring key ecosystem spotlights, groundbreaking technical alpha announcements, and a vibrant mix of developers and global companies, The Aptos Experience embodied the energy, ambition, and ingenuity that define the ecosystem.
Code Collision United Builders Around the World
This summer, the Aptos Foundation hosted Code Collision, a unique global hackathon encouraging developers to bring forth their most ambitious ideas. Over 2,600 builders contributed 650+ projects—with 50 winners sharing in $500,000 USD in prizes. This initiative highlighted the Aptos Foundation’s dedication to empowering builders with the tools, resources, and developer collaboration to succeed, while showcasing the brilliance and untapped potential within the global Web3 community.
Technical Advancements Pushed the Industry Forward
2024 was also the year of technical leaps for Aptos, setting new benchmarks for what blockchain can accomplish. In February, Aptos Labs introduced the industry’s first secure and instant on-chain randomness API for PoS blockchains, advancing capabilities in gaming, NFTs, and beyond. Aptos Keyless and Aptos Connect landed in July, reimagining wallet accessibility with seamless, secure, and user-friendly experiences.
Aptos Autumn brought even more blockchain advancements. During Aptos Experience, a number of new technical features and developer tooling were unveiled including rollout of Move 2, a significant upgrade to the Move programming language, alongside Raptr, Block-STM v2, and Aptos Build. These community-driven innovations not only enhanced the technical foundation of Aptos but also opened new doors for builders, creators, and users.
Aptos Developers Proved They’re Built Different
Aptos is built different—and so are the builders who’ve made it their home. These aren’t just developers; they’re pioneers, drawn to a platform designed for innovation. This year, the Aptos Foundation launched a series to spotlight the groundbreaking projects shaping the future of Web3.
Take KYD Labs, a blockchain-based ticketing platform fighting for fairness in the live events industry. Or Overlai, a one-click app that embeds creators’ rights into their digital assets. And Econia: a hyper-parallelized on-chain order book making global, seamless trading a reality. These projects, and the innovators behind them, represent the ethos of Aptos: creating what can’t be built anywhere else.
Records Were Meant to Be Broken
The Aptos network proved its scalability in 2024, setting the record for the most transactions processed in a single day. The first milestone came on May 25, with 156 million transactions processed in a single day. Just months later, Aptos shattered its own records, processing an astounding 326 million on August 15.
Aptos now holds the top 4 records for daily transactions among all blockchains. These achievements highlight Aptos’ ability to support massive activity with unmatched speed and reliability.
Builders Were the Heartbeat of the Ecosystem
The Aptos ecosystem thrives because of its builders—pioneers who are shaping the future of decentralization. This year, more than 1,000 new developers chose to build the future of Web3 on Aptos. According to the latest Electric Capital Developer Report, Aptos had the second-fastest growing ecosystem—with developer activity growing 96% from Q3 2023 to Q4 2024.
2024 Has Been a Year of Unstoppable Growth
According to the math: this has been a year defined by momentum. Aptos TVL grew by 1,800%—nearly 20X—to $1.2B thanks to increased network adoption from institutions, next-generation DeFi protocols, stablecoins and builders. Daily active addresses have grown 10x year-to-date, jumping from 70K in January to hit a high of 1.2M in late November. Monthly active addresses also reached all-time highs, climbing to 8.8M in December.
